INTRODUCING
NICOLE VAN DER DRIFT
Hi, I’m Nicole a wife, a mum, and now the proud fourth generational line of Brooker Colour Therapy.
My husband and I ran our own business for five years before deciding to sell and take life in a new direction. For the few past years, I’ve been working Virtually in Te Awamutu, all while navigating the next chapter of our family legacy an Alternative Therapy: Colour Therapy.
I’m the eldest daughter of Rachel Good (née Brooker), granddaughter of the late Allan Brooker, and great-granddaughter of the late Don Brooker. Carrying on with Brooker Colour Therapy wasn’t something I initially saw coming. When it was offered to me, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. Would I be able to honour the generations before me? Could I do justice to a practice that's touched so many lives?
In the end, I couldn’t let our long-standing clients down, some of whom were treated by all three generations before me. That spoke volumes. So here I am, proud and passionate about continuing a tradition that’s spanned over 60 years.
The Brooker Colour Therapy Legacy
This story starts with my great-grandfather, Don Brooker, a scientist with a curious mind and a critical eye. He was first introduced to Colour Therapy in the late 1940's by a Mr R.F. Liley, a practising therapist. Don witnessed Liley treating a wide range of conditions using colour frequencies, even in cases where conventional medicine had struggled to help.
At first, Don was skeptical especially about “dowsing,” a diagnostic method used by Liley to select colours for therapy. But through careful observation and experiments of his own, Don found surprising accuracy in dowsing and colour frequency matching. He eventually developed his own tabulation systems and diagnostic methods, building on what he learned and adding his own scientific spin.
What stood out to him wasn’t just the theory, but the results. Colour Therapy was gentle, non-invasive, and carried no risks of overdose or side effects. He saw firsthand how it supported the body's natural healing mechanisms and promoted balance. Over time, his scientific skepticism transformed into passionate advocacy. That shift marked the true beginning of our family's alternative therapy journey.
From there, Don passed the reins to his son, my grandfather Allan. Allan carried out daily clinic operations, helped countless people, and trained others in the practice. My mum, Rachel, worked closely with him for over a year before stepping into the role herself. And now, the baton has passed to me.
This isn’t a trend. It’s a legacy. A quiet, steady alternative therapy practice that’s lived through generations, not just of our family, but of the many people who have trusted us along the way.
